Do you Want to Have Fun, or do you want to sound good?
Welcome to my
comfort zone!
Ok, so maybe this title seems harsh, but it is an honest consideration that each music student has to face. First off, let's start by stating the good news: doing both at the same time is possible. But it's possible to do one or the other separately, as well, which gives less than ideal results (or downright bad results). Whether you have a positive or negative learning experience will depend on two major factors: your teacher's method and, just as importantly, your own approach. Learning an instrument is a collaboration between both teacher and student.

Any experienced musician who has achieved a high level of playing will tell you: Not every practice day is fun and relaxing. Sometimes it just feels like work (because be realistic, being great at something takes hard work and dedication). Misleading students by telling them practicing their instrument will always be easy doesn't give them the ability to mentally prepare for the hard days. When you realize that those hard days are normal, then you are less likely to blame yourself ("I'm no good at this.") or your instrument ("This is just too hard").

However, playing music is incredibly rewarding. Gaining the skill in and of itself is something to be proud of. Add in the mental and emotional rewards, community connections, and sheer joy of being able to play for the beauty or fun of it, well, that's pure magic. In fact, there really are no words to describe it.

If you are ready to embrace the challenge and push your playing to new heights, look through this section of the site to learn our approach to bringing the best out of every one of our students through supportive encouragement, clear guidance, and constructive goal oriented lessons.
