"The Case of Duo.Hansens's 'Sherlock's Theme' Video and the Unexpected Views"
"Make the videos", they said. "Don't worry about quality. No one will see them", they said. Well, THAT was a lie.
It all started with a new camera, no filming experience, and a love for all things classical music (and violin and cello, of course).
BBC's Sherlock was coming out with a new series, and we thought it would be fun to cover its popular theme. We decided to add a bit of flare and give it some Sarasate flavor. (Real life Sarasate, known for romantic virtuosity, was Sherlock Holmes' favorite touring violinist in the novels).
In a matter of a day or two, we arranged and memorized the part. The only thing left to do was film a performance of it! How hard could it be? Only our second video with our new camera, we realized it could be pretty darn hard. We fumbled around with things like focus, lighting, and set. It's fine. It's just practice.
Although the video turned out a bit blurry, we knew "no one" would see our early videos. We'll get better as we go, and by the time people start finding our videos, we'll be much better at this whole filming thing.
While we knew no one would see them, posting was still surprisingly difficult. Being a classical musician always comes with at least some level of perfectionism. It's in the blood. However, we managed to set that aside, with a constant reminder, "no one will see this", and clicked "Make Public".
Long story short: It's our most viewed video. 😏
